Inspect a few specific areas
Look at skin, hair edges, teeth, eyes and clothing. Over-smoothing may erase normal texture while sharpening makes nearby details unnaturally crisp. Strong colour edits can affect the face and background differently.
Use a final review
- Toggle between original and edited versions.
- Check at normal size and a closer view.
- Reduce the strongest adjustment first.
- Ask whether the result still represents you comfortably.
A brightened face with a dark, unchanged neck can look disconnected. That is a reason to reduce or reconsider the edit, not to keep adding corrections indefinitely.
Keep the purpose small
Cropping, modest colour balance and a gentle exposure correction may be enough. A dating portrait does not need to remove every line or irregularity. Choose clarity and recognition over a polished finish that creates a different-looking person.
