Test three positions
Try facing a window, standing at an angle to it and moving a little farther into the room. Keep the camera at a comfortable distance so a wide-angle close-up does not dominate the face.
Simplify the frame
- Remove a few distracting objects from view.
- Check mirrors and reflective surfaces.
- Leave room around the head for cropping.
- Use a timer or a friend rather than stretching the phone too close.
A doorway can create a plain background while the adjacent room supplies light. You do not need to make the whole home look like a studio; only the visible frame needs attention.
Keep the result lived-in
A small amount of real context can be more inviting than an aggressively blurred or replaced background. Choose a picture that looks like you in a believable space, and use the local editor for modest framing adjustments if needed.
