Simplify the room
Try a position near a window and switch off a nearby lamp if it adds an obvious orange patch. Alternatively, use a consistently lit room without daylight crossing the face. Compare the result before applying filters.
Check a reference frame
- Take one unfiltered picture.
- Look at both cheeks and the neck.
- Move away from strongly coloured walls or signs.
- Review the photo on a neutral screen setting.
A red neon sign may look attractive in the room but cast a colour that makes skin difficult to edit naturally. A small move can solve more than a heavy colour correction.
Keep colour edits modest
Avoid making every part of the image neutral if the setting is naturally warm. The goal is a believable, recognisable portrait. If different areas need opposite corrections, retaking the photograph in simpler light may be faster and more convincing than repairing it.
